Everday Wear

30 Mar

Sometimes putting an outfit together for everyday wear can pose more a challenge than composing an outfit for a fancy Gala. A question I often field is, “What do I put with this or that?” and “How do I make an everyday outfit seem interesting without going over the top?” My answer to these questions is, invest in few really great staples and you will be able to interchange them with so many different things and for so many different occasions, you will so happy you purchased them. (I answered the Winter time version of this question here.)

My top picks for everyday are:

1. Great Fitting Dark Wash Jeans

2. Comfortable Flats to “run around” in

3. Good Size Everyday Handbag that fits all the daily essentials

4. Cute Jacket to throw over top of anything, in a color that goes with the rest of your wardrobe

5. A tee shirt with a little detail. Whether it is printed, embellished, or tie dye, something that is a little different to throw into the mix with basic pieces

If you have all of these components in your closet, and throw in a few accessories,  than you will undoubtedly be able to throw on a great ensemble at the drop of a dime.

Below I have featured 2 looks with the items listed above, mixing and matching low priced items with higher end pieces.  Because I don’t believe that looking chic has to cost a bundle.

Animal Instincts

23 Mar

For the past few months, I have slowly been introducing some animal-like wear into my wardrobe. The gradual process has been a bird ring here, a tee shirt with a zebra printed across it there, and my next purchase will most likely be the leopard and orange sandals shown below. While I don’t think I could ever fully embrace a leopard skirt, I think just the hint of the pattern will do just fine.  Mixing in some animal prints is great, just remember to never go overboard with one print and stray away from mixing different animals all in one outfit. Besides that, enjoy the wild side!

If you are going to purchase anything you see below, be sure to visit http://www.econsciousmarket.com. They donate 10% of every purchase to charity of your choice.

Spring Fever!

18 Mar

Spring may not officially begin until Sunday, but with the unseasonably warm weather we are having the East Coast,  I can’t help but feel that it has already arrived. This is by far my favorite season! There are so many changes that occur that I can’t help, but find it incredibly inspiring. The longer days, warmer weather, plants beginning to bloom are all signs of renewal and new beginnings. Below are some things that I will be enjoying this Spring.

Light Bright – Spring Fashion Goes Electric!

16 Mar

Neon, Fluorescent, Bright Colors – whatever you prefer to call them, have popped up everywhere for Spring. This electrifying response to Winter’s drab tones will surely definitely satisfy any craving for change and the coming of Spring.  My deep collection of black and gray clothes will soon have some very bright colors to contend with. I believe that all complexions can pull of a Fluorescent color, it is just a matter of finding the right one. Blondes can normally wear Day-Glow yellow or green, Brunettes can pull of Fuschias, and Red Heads look fabulous in Coral. When looking to pair these electric shades for an outfit, the easiest way would be to put them with black or a neutral shade, like a light gray or a khaki tone. If the thought of wearing Magenta, Lime Green, or Tangerine scares you, then start out with wearing super bright accessories or make-up to warm up to this trend. Adding a pop of color can awaken outfit and make you stand out in a crowd!

Great Lengths

10 Mar

There is a new skirt length in town for Spring and Summer and it is being welcomed with open arms, The Midi.  It is a 3/4 length skirt falling somewhere between under the knee and above the ankle.  The Midi provides a fresh alternative to the Mini and the Maxi skirts, we have seen in past seasons. The ladylike nature of the hemline leans towards a ultra feminine look without being too obvious.  Flowy options call for ballet flats or pumps, while skin tight skirts are best paired with a sexy high heel or sandal counterpart.  Personally, I love to pair a flowy skirt like the Marc By Marc Jacobs, shown below, with a broken-in tank.

1.  Marni White Blouse $238

2. Striped Skirt $66

3. Splendid Vintage Tank $44

4. Marc By Marc Sylvie Skirt $298

5. Army Green Tank $223

6. Thakoon Addition Washed Silk Skirt $ 395

7. Bird Blouse $88

8. Pleated Skirt $80

Bar III

2 Mar

I took the opportunity this past weekend to visit Macy’s Pop- Up shop for it’s new Contemporary line Bar III. It is in a gorgeous, lofty space set up in New York’s Flat Iron District. The space definitely fits the aesthetic of the clothes; clean lines, graphic patterns and some neutral tones. The  new line has simple, easy to wear pieces, but the styles are very current and have a feminine undertone.  The styles extend from romantic lace blouses to graphic printed dresses to the perfect light weight jacket that can you throw on over practically anything! Most items are very moderately priced, so you won’t have to brake the bank while looking stylish this Spring. I ended up with a navy, drawstring waist, sleeveless dress.  It fits perfectly and will suit so many different occasions. But, I am most looking forward to wearing it with flat neutral sandals when it finally hits 80 degrees. The Pop-Up Shop is open until March 6 and is currently available on-line.
