Harvest Time

26 Oct

Every weekend since the end of the Summer has been super hectic. This past weekend I  finally took the time to partake in a Fall Festival. My husband and I went to Laurita Winery where they had their annual Harvest Festival, complete with a pumpkin eating dinosaur (who didn’t exactly live up to the name.) It was nice to just be outside, sit down for a few hours and appreciate the Fall weather.

Fall Faux Real

5 Oct

So the time for Fall clothes has finally arrived. Hooray! I was getting so tired of sandals and sweating. (come January I will be eating my words.) For now I am excited about this change in seasons and welcoming the cooler temps with arms that are ready for a coat. We went out this past weekend for an awesome dinner and I grabbed the chance to wear boots and a faux fur vest so quickly, I almost started to sweat (again). I am totally embracing the variety of colors that are being offered this Fall for bottoms: pants, skirts, shorts etc.. Wearing them with a patterned blouse, faux fur vest, and gold jewelry has a certain exhilarating luxury that can only be felt in this time of year.

Native Inspirations

16 Sep

The Native inspired prints and colors trend for fall is so alluring with the rich textures, intricate patterns, and exquisite details . I love the native prints manipulated into modern silhouettes. The luxurious patterns and comfortable materials make this style such a viable option for Fall. Pieces that can provide comfort and luxe in colder temperatures, what else can you want?  One of the qualities that attracts me most to this style is the colors, the contrast of dark and light with a pop of color thrown into the pattern. Sometimes it isn’t necessary to copy a trend exactly, but to analyze and take away from it something that you can relate into your wardrobe. If there were only thing to take away from this trend, it could be to wear an electric blue against a camel and black outfit or wear fringe boots with a patterned mini skirt and dark tights.

Surfside Casual

26 Jul

Last week I took a break from the everyday and headed to the beach, Long Beach Island, for an extremely relaxing vacation. Leading up to this week I hadn’t realized just how much this vacay was really needed. I frequent the beach often on weekends, but spending a week full of sun and carefree days was so rejuvenating.  The days were spent reading (finished Drinking Closer to Home and read 3/4 of  The Help – both highly recommended), taking long beach walks, and celebrating the sunset with a cocktail.  I was so content with this lifestyle, it was a little hard to transition into this week. I incorporated the  super laid back style of the beach into my dress for the week. Which isn’t too far off of how I normally dress, but it did have an extra surf style influence.

As Seen on: BetterTV

24 Jun

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be at the studios of BetterTV in New York to film a segment of the show.  I was there to speak about my money saving tips while shopping. This was my second TV appearance in 2 weeks, I felt prepared, albeit a just a little bit nervous because I knew that this would air nationally. Fortunately, I was able to meet the adorable and gracious co-hosts, Audra and Rhiannon, ahead of time so that helped calm my nerves. Here is the clip, hope you enjoy! I also included my outfit details below. Summer Ease

15 Jun

Every Season inevitably has those pieces that you turn to for ease, reliability, and sheer comfort. So far this summer I have been going for neutrals, statement piece jewelry and maxi skirts/dresses. I have really repeating these items so frequently, I may have to hide them somewhere and bring them back out in a month or so. Then it will be fun all over again to wear them! Until I can find a good hiding place then I will just keep on wearing them, enough to have my husband realize that I am repeating outfits!

One Short, 3 Ways

8 Jun

Getting to wear 1 piece various ways is like hitting the jackpot. It feels as though you are truly getting the most out of your investment, but  thinking of  ways to mix and match can be challenging. When doing Wardrobe Consultations, clients often ask, “what is another way I can wear this?” Referring to a top, skirt, pants etc.. that they would like to re-purpose and wear differently.  I love answering this question. It helps them see their wardrobe pieces in a new light, and helps them get the most out of their existing wardrobe!

Below is an example of how to re-wear an item that may seem to have only 1 outfit option. Mixing up patterned pieces beyond the usual combinations can be a bit intimidating, but currently I love throwing out the common suspects and throwing in some twists. Bright colors look amazing against muted color patterned shorts, as does another pattern that is complimentary, but does not compete with the original item. I think these shorts are completely perfect for a BBQ, the Beach or even a Night Out!

Great Lengths

10 Mar

There is a new skirt length in town for Spring and Summer and it is being welcomed with open arms, The Midi.  It is a 3/4 length skirt falling somewhere between under the knee and above the ankle.  The Midi provides a fresh alternative to the Mini and the Maxi skirts, we have seen in past seasons. The ladylike nature of the hemline leans towards a ultra feminine look without being too obvious.  Flowy options call for ballet flats or pumps, while skin tight skirts are best paired with a sexy high heel or sandal counterpart.  Personally, I love to pair a flowy skirt like the Marc By Marc Jacobs, shown below, with a broken-in tank.

1.  Marni White Blouse $238

2. Striped Skirt $66

3. Splendid Vintage Tank $44

4. Marc By Marc Sylvie Skirt $298

5. Army Green Tank $223

6. Thakoon Addition Washed Silk Skirt $ 395

7. Bird Blouse $88

8. Pleated Skirt $80

There have been a few items in my closet and in my home that have become my instant faves. The items that have been highly rotated from closet can be worn with such and have such a high level of versatility, that I can’t stop wearing them. I am loving wearing them now and looking forward to incorporating them into my Spring wardrobe as well. As far as my home accessories go, these small trays , shown below, have limitless uses. Each one has an intricate design that coordinates well with my decor style. While out shopping I stumbled across the ideal frames for the prints that featured in last week’s post. I cannot stop staring at the framed art and how well it completes my office.

This is the ultimate multi-purpose tray. I use it to collect my jewelry, but I also have them on desk as coasters. Love them!

The perfect, lightweight Crossbody bag. I have been wearing out at night, a great alternate to a Clutch!

Perfect for now and will transition superbly into Spring. Jeans, skirt, dresses, they go with all of them.

This beaded necklace looks great with sweaters and I have already experimented with how great it will with Bright tees in the Spring.

Found this frame at West Elm, it works so well with the picture. The matting around the print definitely makes the image pop!
