Trending: Let’s get Nordic!

18 Nov

Being warm and comfortable in the Winter is a must, but looking sleek while doing this can prove to be a task.  This season warm up to one of the most prominent trends, all things Nordic. Shearling lined, fur lined, cashmere clad clothes are in abundance making for one comfortably chic season. Having these styles so popular this season will help us look more feminine and less snow man. The intricate details of Nordic sweaters and prints adds detail to otherwise basic sweaters, and fur trimmed outerwear or accessories will simultaneously be posh and toasty.

(Micro-trend: I have noticed a lot of refined sweatpants being worn with flats and booties as part of weekend wear, this creates some really weekend chic looks. Rejoice that this sporty luxe look can not to be worn just at home, but out around town too. Plus, these pants are a great alternative to leggings! *I am not exactly saying this is a free pass to wear printed pajama pants out of the house. I am discussing knit pants in flattering silhouettes. So, take a second and at least switch your bottoms. You will be on the heels of this very urban chic trend!

What to wear with a: Cardigan

11 Nov

I have discussed before that the most common questions I field are, what do I wear with that? “That” being a pair of pants, a skirt, top, etc… Since the cooler temps and Winter months are upon us I found it appropriate to discuss, What to Wear with a Cardigan.  It’s so easy to throw on a tank, cami or t-shirt underneath. But I think it’s important to showcase pieces beyond that parameter, to keep the look exciting.

I personally like to have my arms covered during this time of year so a sleeveless top doesn’t really cut it for me. Adding texture, color, patterns, embellishments tops are great way to transform a cardigan from looking ordinary to extraordinary. For example, if the cardigan in  combination #1 was paired with a plain t-shirt than the the outfit would look well, plain. Pairing it with a patterned top keeps it fresh and interesting. Finishing the outfit with black skinny pants or a straight leg pant would complete this outfit nicely.

Lately, more so than usual, I have been finding great deals on exceptional pieces. Some items are on sale, while others are well priced to begin with. I have always believed that looking amazing on a daily basis does NOT have to cost a fortune and can be done on any budget. I never discount (no pun intended) sale racks and lower price point retailers. Below are pieces that I found to be pretty remarkable for the price!

Men’s Fashion 101

8 Sep

It has been asked of me by a few different guys to do a post about Men’s fashion, clothing and tips on how to dress overall.  This really shocked me, but I accepted this request with open arms because I love nothing more than helping people and more importantly helping people feel and look their best. I have a few style tips that I am more than willing to hand out, especially to the male gender. Ladies out there, you know this was not easy for a man to do – ask for help. Anyway, back to the clothes.

Fit. The first guideline for men, and woman too is fit. I am not talking about being fit or in shape, I am discussing the fit of your clothes; shirts, pants, jackets etc.  The fit of any garment is really what makes the piece look great on. Clothing straight off the rack is not made for everyBODY, so getting them tailored makes any piece look so much better. Pants should be hemmed if they too long and bunch at the ankle. If the sleeves of a jacket are too long those should be tailored as well. The sleeve should end right where the wrist meets the hand.

Wearing over sized clothes. People often hide behind their clothes, because they feel it makes them looks better. When in reality large, ill fitting clothes make you look well, big.  The shoulder seam should fit right at the edge of your shoulder, not any higher- this will create shorter sleeves, or any lower on the arm- this look sloppy and the sleeve will be too long.

No pleats please. The most flattering and universal pant fit is one without pleats. Whether is a khaki or a dress pant, flat front pants are the way to go! Don’t forget to get those pants hemmed to the correct length. Bring the shoe with you that you will most likely wear with that pair of pants to ensure the proper hem length.

Ditch the white sneakers. We all know that you play sports or err did play sports. So there is no reason to always be ready for the b-ball court. I am not saying to go out and buy a pair of designer sneakers, but you could switch them out for a pair of sleek Nikes, the always classic Converse or even a super cool pair of Puma’s or New Balances. I totally believe that shoes or sneakers should make/complete an outfit, but when they stick out from the rest of the ensemble this is never a good thing. The sneakers don’t necessarily have to match the outfit, but should at least be tonal with the other colors in the outfit.

Denim. If you are in the market for a new pair of jeans and don’t know which style to buy, at least make sure the wash is dark. This is the most flattering and versatile wash out there. The style of the jean will totally depend on your body type. As I mentioned above if they too long get them hemmed. When you take them to get hemmed, ask the Tailor or Seamstress to re-attach the original hem. This will make it look as though you purchased them right from the store at the perfect length.

Jeans- Levi’s $42.99

Sweater, J.Crew $138

Sneakers, Nike $39.90

Rules to Pack By

25 May

Packing a bag for a weekend getaway can sometimes pose a challenge. Cramming essentials, clothes and shoes in just one bag can definitely present some logistical and practical problems. Being a person that loves to throw everything under the sun into her luggage when packing for a trip, when packing a weekender this simply does not work. So, I follow a few “fail-safe” rules to make sure my packing is pragmatic, but I still have room for all of my fun pieces!

1. Plan your Packing! Put your shoes on the bottom and layer everything else on top.

2. Organize by Category!  Put all your tops, pants, intimates etc.. in piles in your bag. This is helpful when you are grabbing something quick out of your bag because you will know exactly where it is. Plus, if you don’t get a chance to unpack you will still keep your clothes in order.

3. Versatility is Key! Pack items that are either neutral or ones that can easily intermix with other pieces you have packed. This will help you get the most out of the few items that are in your bag.

4. Wear it There! I always wear an outfit that I can wear again on the trip. Whether it’s a tank and cropped jeans or a T-shirt and printed shorts, these outfits can be broken up and worn with other pieces.

5. Don’t Stress! If you have gone through all your outfits and have to wear the same thing twice, don’t worry. When you think back on the trip you will remember the great memories and not that you wore the same outfit multiple times.

1. Tank Dress $110

2. Weekender Bag $558

3. Gray Wedge $45.99

4. Orange Tank Top $89.50

5. Cropped Pants $70

6. Mara Necklace $170 (per each strand)

7. Maxi Dress $60

8. Cardigan $76

9. Jean Shorts $39.50

10. Feather Sandal $225

The Spring Switch

10 May

When it comes to this time of year I tend to change up my outfits. The warmer weather and super sunny days have allowed me to trade in my cardigans, jeans and ankle boots in exchange for; tanks, flat sandals and cropped pants. I am completely embracing and loving this change. This outfit has been so versatile for day or night, only a quick swap of accessories and shoes is needed.
